BIOGRAPHY
My first memories as a young child are memories of drawing. My parents had grown up as farmers and ranchers in Colorado and Wyoming, and I spent younger days exploring family farms and the outdoors. Capturing places and objects of affection in drawings have been part of my daily life. Starting to paint seriously later in life - largely self-taught - painting has changed the way I experience and appreciate life.
Although I follow my own internal compass, I love being compared to Vincent Van Gogh. For what my work lacks in sophistication or cleverness of most "modern art", I prefer it makes up for it in the genuineness of instinctive, self-taught and passionate work.

Everywhere I look, I see a painting. I have a great appreciation for the light, texture, and geometry that occur in nature and in life. All places, people, and things have inherent beauty. A rustic old truck, desolate place, or busy main street can emit peace, beauty, and a sense of place. Artistically capturing the impressions of light, texture, and geometry of everyday life is my artistic ambition.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I paint with the palette knife because it gives me the opportunity to interact with paint in a very tactile, expressionistic way. Each viewer of my art is able to gain a strong sense of my physical interaction with the paint, with each stroke and manipulation visible forever. The surfaces of my paintings are very telling, sometimes resembling a mosaic of palette knife strokes. Being blessed with an unusual first name allows me to sign my work with my given name.

WORK DIRECTION
My portfolio is reflective of a balance and tension between old and new. A love of impressionism and representationalism yet a desire to explore contemporary themes results in vibrant transitional work. I have a strong internal drive to produce both small works/studies and larger exhibition and gallery sized works that represent the forefront of my work direction. Both new and established collectors will find work in my portfolio that suits their ambitions.

COLOR PALETTE
My work is not defined by color palette or subject, but rather by texture and gesture. You will find a broad array of subjects and color use in my paintings, which I find very liberating. However, one color keeps coming back to me as a signature and keeps finding its way subtly into my paintings. It's a color name that is known more by its aroma than chroma. Can you guess what it is?
